After staying two and a half day in Beijing we went over to Datong, which meant a bus trip of about six hours. We arrived only in the late evening. The next day we first went to the see the Yungang Grottoes about half an hour away from Datong. The Yungang Grottoes have been carved into the loess around 400 A.D during the Northern Wei Dynasty and contain several carvings of Buddha. The two most important grottoes are hidden behind wooden shrines.

Later that day we reached the Hanging Monastery.
There is quite an amazing view from the top on the beautifully adorned roofs.
